Katelyn is now doing great after being on Audiblox for 5 months. The teachers at school are amazed and she really can't believe what they are saying and she's sure there must be something wrong. There isn't.
My daughter who just turned 11, was diagnosed LD in March 1998 when she was in second grade. Her IEP manager was the speech language pathologist, which should have made me sit up and ask some questions. All I knew is that she couldn't read and I had been working with her a lot. I finally found a great program that helped her decode and she was reading grade level within 8 months, so I thought whew! that's over with. Now all she has to do is read and that's it. WRONG! She did okay in third grade. Fourth grade was tough for me because I could see her backsliding and not keeping up with her classmates and I didn't know what to do. This girl has an expressive/receptive language problem - and I didn't even know anything about all of that until she came along.
I discovered Audiblox and thought I would give it a try since it does have a language component. I originally planned to work with her five days a week for 30 minutes a day, but her homework has been so horrendous this year, I backed off to four days a week for 30-40 minutes. She listens to the tape 6-7 days a week.
It's just been in the last two weeks I've really seen results. I've had her principal come up and talk to me about how well she's doing and how she should get a medal for working so hard. The only thing different we've been doing is Audiblox. I told her that we can't stop now. My husband is also now convinced. Also you should have read the summary she wrote today for her literature assignment. She had to write a summary over the 7 chapters she had to read. I didn't help her at all and when I read it over I only had her make three very minor changes. I was so impressed. Her grammar and syntax and phrasing - while not perfect - was so much better than a month ago. Of course her school and teachers will take the credit. I don't really care, I finally feel that a burden has been lifted from my shoulders. I feel that we will reach the "end of the rainbow".
Be sure I'll keep you posted on further progress. We have parent teacher conferences in two weeks.
Thanks,
Pat
