Visual Perceptual Skills, Working Memory,
Motor Planning, etc: Question and Answer

QUESTION:

These are some terms I am becoming familiar with. Does Audiblox address these issues?

  • Visual efficiency skills
  • Visual perceptual skills
  • Working memory
  • Phonological processing skills
  • Motor planning/Temporal processing

ANSWER:

Below are the skills taught by Audiblox within each category.

Visual efficiency skills: If done correctly, the Audiblox Reading exercise increases the eye-span, thereby reducing the number of eye fixations and regressions.

Visual perceptual skills: Audiblox teaches and automates the following visual perceptual skills: The ability to discriminate, synthesize and analyze between colors, foreground-background, form or shape, size, and position in space.

Working memory: Nearly every Audiblox exercise addresses working memory. Audiblox does not teach techniques to improve memory, but teaches the skill of memory. Click here to read an article on the importance of memory training in overcoming learning disabilities.

Phonological processing skills: Audiblox does not directly address phonology, but the foundational skills that make phonological processing possible.

  • Language: There is a strong link between language and phonological awareness. Therefore, if a child has a language problem, the Audiblox language program is recommended.

  • Skills like auditory discrimination, auditory analysis, and auditory memory (especially for sequence) underlie phonological awareness.

Motor planning: Audiblox addresses fine- and gross-motor skills, and integration.

Audiblox can be applied one-on-one and in a group setting.
