The Audiblox Diary of Kori Mitchell

July 2002

Posted by Michelle on July 8, 2002, 4:27 am

Sequencing exercise - 30
Arrows 2&3 - She is doing good at this.
Pattern - 31
Reading - she is doing this faster but still has more trouble on Monday after having a few days off. By Friday she is doing great.
Logical thinking 1 - we are working on R now.
Bean bags still need help. She will get 10 - 12 catches now and then but not in a row.
Arrows 4 - she does pretty good now but very slow.
Logical thinking 2 - She has completed up to B3 with no problem so far.
Adding 1 - She is finishing the ones and ends the 4 minutes in the 2nd column adding 2.
Spatial - no problem
Auditory pattern - still working on 14
Counting - she still struggles going backward with the 2's. She can do it just not with ease and she forgets where she is now and then.
Logical thinking 1b - She has finished them all and we have begun to review them.
Logical thinking 3 - Working group L. These are sometimes more difficult than the others for her.

Reading Test - In 10 minutes she finished 7 paragraphs. I marked 33 errors or struggles. Very slow and choppy reading. Some of the words that she knows well in the reading exercise she didn't seem to recognize in the story. But I'm very pleased with her progress here and am looking forward to where she'll be at the end of the year.

Thanks again,
Michelle

Dear Michelle and Kori

Hi there! Thank you for the latest feedback, Kori seems to be working hard and is still making good progress.

Michelle, I am not going to make any changes to Kori's program this week. I think we need a little more practice on what you have at the moment, so that we can consolidate.

I hope to make some changes again next week.

Keep up the good (and hard!) work,
Benetta.

Hi everyone. I don't have anything different to report today. Most everything has stayed the same since my last update.

Kori is getting the 35 correct most the time in her sequencing exercise now.
Arrows are doing good. She still needs to work on the step 4 more.
Reading is going ok. She managed to add 5 words to 2 of her stacks.
Counting - She has this down most the time but usually makes one error going backward everytime.
Bean Bags - We don't seem to be getting this. She gets up to 12 sometimes but never 3 times in a row.
Adding - She is slowing moving quicker in this but has a ways to go before getting all the way to 4+.
Auditory pattern - She is still working the 14. She has come close though.
Tables - She is beginning to pick up speed on these. I haven't added any this week because I wasn't sure she was responding quick enough. I think she is doing much better and quicker the last few days.
Pattern 2 - 31 correct
Logical thinking 1 - Working on S and reviewing.
Logical thinking 3 - Working on M and reviewing.
Logical thinking 1b - She has finished all of these. So we are reviewing some. She loves this one.
We are going to do the Reading Test today. I'll post a quick update as soon as we do that.

Benetta let me know when you want me to do the Reading Comp. I think sometime next week is when I'm suposed to.

I just read about Keenan's progress and am very encouraged. Those are great results. I'm looking forward to the one year mark for Kori's program. It is exciting to see the changes already. Thanks for all your support!

Michelle

Hi there, Michelle and Kori!

Thanks for the latest update. I am glad to hear that you are still working hard. Again, no changes to the program. I think Kori has reached a bit of a plateau, which is quite normal when working with Audiblox.

I shall not make any changes now. I want us to consolidate what we have achieved so far.

Michelle, please do the comprehension test again this week. I shall only make changes to her program if she manages to complete the test in a shorter time and if she manages to score 100% for the test again.

That is all for now! Keep up the good work!

Greetings,
Benetta.

Here's the results to the 2nd reading test with Kori.
This time she managed to read 12 paragraphs with 40 mistakes.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi! It's time for my update.

Reading Comprehension - She finished the story in 15 minutes which a score of 80%.

Sequencing - 35 still
Pattern 2 - 31 still
Auditory Pattern - She got 14 correct!
Reading - She up to 25 in 3 stacks and 30 in 2 stacks.
Counting - She has finally gotten the 2-100 down with no errors!
Arrows 2 & 3 - She does these perfect now.
Arrows 4 - still needs some practice to get it with ease.
Spatial - perfect
Tables - I still feel she is a little slow on these and I don't add to them often.
Bean bags - Still not getting this on mastered.
Adding - She is getting a little quicker but not much.
Logical Thinking 1 - We are working on T now.
Logical Thinking 2 - Working D
Logical Thinking 1b - Reviewing
Logical Thinking 3 - Working N

She is having trouble in a few areas and we are working on them. The bean bags and the tables exercises seem to be at a stand still. She knows the answers to the tables but is very slow and hesitant. I think she is slow at the adding also. It seems that she just needs more practice on these.

Till next time,
Michelle

Dear Michelle and Kori

Hi there! Thank you for the update! I was VERY impressed with the latest comprehension test. If we consider she scored 80% for the last two tests, but she took 22 minutes to complete the tests, then taking only 15 minutes to achieve 80% again is tremendous. Well done, Kori!.

Michelle, I know I said in my message dated 23rd of July 2002 that I would only make changes to her program if she manages to complete the comprehension test in a shorter time, AND if she manages to score 100% for the test again. However, she did so well, that I shall make a few small changes to her program. Kori, you are a star, girl!

Concerning the Sequencing exercise, I am going to make a small change to the practice target of this exercise, as she is able to score 35 blocks consistently. Please change the target to: Start with 10 blocks/add 6 when correct within the allotted time/add none when incorrect. Kori, can you try and do 40 blocks with this exercise now? Also change the practice target of Pattern exercise 2 as indicated in my personal e-mail to you.

Concerning the arrows exercise, when doing Steps 2 and 3, I want you to use the chart that you had to draw on your computer, i.e. the chart with the smaller arrows, again. Continue replacing some of the arrows by clapping of the hands. No change to Arrows Step 4 yet.

In the Counting exercise it is also time for a change! Drill the current new step on Day 1, which must still be counting in 2s, but now in odd numbers form 1-59 and back. Revise some of the older steps on Day 2.

Concerning the Auditory exercise, well done! Mastering 14 blocks is no small achievement! Do not start with 14 blocks any more, but start with 16 blocks and work it up towards 18 or 20 blocks.

Michelle and Kori, these are all the changes for now. Thank you for your commitment to Audiblox, it is a real pleasure working with you!

I shall speak to you soon again,
Benetta.
