The Audiblox Diary of Kori Mitchell

August 2002

Posted by Michelle Potter on August 10, 2002, 5:15 pm

Hi everyone! It's getting so hot here in California. But our summer is going to quickly.

Kori is getting excited for the next school year. She has continued with math and Audiblox throgh the summer. She is doing her math much better lately. Her problems are more organized and neater on the page. She is also showing less errors in division and multiplication. I see so much progress sprinkled throughout her life! She has always done well at understanding math but is very slow at memorizing facts. This is one area that we are struggling with in Audiblox, the adding and tables. I think she needs to work up speed on these. She also continues to read signs, titles and bumper stickers when we are out and about. We are excited.

Sequencing - 34
Pattern - 34
Reading - good. We've added 10 cards
Auditory pattern - still on 16
Arrows 2&3 - these are going great. She almost has them down.
Arrows 4 - This is almost mastered.
Couting - Almost!
Bean Bags - Still working this
Logical thinking 3 - Working on Group O
Logical thinking 2 - Working on Group F
Logical thinking 1 - working on Group U

Well, that's all. I think we are due to do the reading test. I'll do that today and post her progress soon.

Dear Michelle and Kori

Thank you for the latest update! Almost time for spring here in South Africa. I must admit, I had enough of chilly weather to last me for a long time!

Michelle, it is good that Kori is getting excited about the next school year. She has worked incredibly hard these past few months and it is great that she is continuing to be so motivated, but even better that you are starting to reap rewards in a lot of areas.

Concerning the Adding exercise, let me put your mind at ease. This is actually an advanced Audiblox exercise that I have added to her program. I have added it because she was progressing so well with the other exercises, and apart from improving her Maths, it will also help to speed her up when doing the reading test.

Concerning Kori's program, please note that you should continue with the current program that you have. Even though she is doing well, I am not going to make any changes, so continue as is with all the exercises.

Michelle and Kori, thanks for the hard work, I hope to speak to you soon again!
Benetta.

Hi all!

I just wanted to let you all know that Benetta and I have decided that Kori should take a week or two off due to an illness she is recovering from. Nothing to serious, just Shingles. Not a fun thing to have but she'll be fine. We plan to start back up next Monday or Tuesday after she sees her doctor again and is feeling better.

Thanks,
Michelle

Dear Kori

Thank you for all your hard work, it is amazing that you continued to do so exceptionally well, even though you were not feeling good.

Enjoy the break, I hope you will feel better soon!
Greetings, Benetta

Hi everyone!

Kori is recovered from her Shingles and we are thankful that they didn't get any worse since I last updated. She started back on the Audiblox program last Wednesday so here's her latest update.

Sequencing - She has only been getting 28 since we started back up. I hope she is just a little rusty from her break.
Pattern - 34
Reading - She started back a little slower but has picked back up in the last few days.
Auditory pattern - still on 16
Arrows 2&3 - She almost had this and then she had to work extra hard after the break but is doing almost perfect on these.
Arrows 4 - She just about has this perfected but is rather slow so I'll try to get her going a little faster now.
Counting - She has mastered this now. Perfect every time.
Bean Bags - Today she did very well. She caught them 10, 12 and 16 times only not in a row.
Logical thinking 3 - Working on Group O
Logical thinking 2 - Working on Group g
Logical thinking 1 - working on Group v

Benetta, when do you want me to do the Reading test and Reading Comprehension again?

Michelle

Dear Michelle and Kori

Welcome back! Kori, I am so happy that you are feeling better. Michelle, I have missed talking to you. I am sure that, now that Kori is better, we shall see some good progress with the Audiblox again.

Concerning Kori's program, please note that you should continue with the program from my e-mail dated 2002-07-02. I am not going to make any major changes, a few small ones should do the trick. I think it safe to give her a few days to get rid of the rustiness.

Concerning the Pattern exercise, she made the target! Well done! Please change to: Start with 12 blocks/add 8 when correct within the allotted time/add none when incorrect. Kori, can you try to do 36 blocks now with this exercise?

Concerning the Counting exercise, time for a change here as well. Adjust the new step to counting in 2s from 1-99 and back.

Michelle, please do the comprehension test this coming week. It has been quite a long time since our last test and I am really anxious to see how much progress she has made. You can do the Reading test as well, I am really looking forward to see her results on this too!

Michelle, it was great hearing from you again! Give Kori a big hug and do keep me posted!

Benetta.
