Audiblox Programme

Audiblox can be applied one-on-one and in a group setting. On this page the one-on-one application of the Audiblox programme is explained. This application of the Audiblox programme can be used at home and in school.

In order for a parent or teacher to use Audiblox on an individual basis, he or she will need the Audiblox kit. The Audiblox kit contains the following items:

The Right to Read

The book The Right to Read:

This book is divided into two parts. Part one contains the theory on which the Audiblox programme is based, while part two contains a standard Audiblox programme for individual use, as well as the most frequently used Audiblox exercises.

The Audiblox programme in The Right to Read is recommended when a learner has dyslexia or a reading difficulty. Any of the following symptoms may indicate a reading difficulty: (1) Reversals — reverses b and d, reads or writes “rat” for “tar,” etc. (2) Elisions — reads or writes “cat” when the word is actually “cart.” (3) Reads slowly and hesitantly. (4) Spells words as they sound, for example “rite” for “right.” (5) Reads with poor comprehension. (6) Remembers little of what he reads.

Supplementary Manual

A supplementary manual:

This manual contains a few specialised programmes:

  • Dysgraphia/Handwriting programme: The word dysgraphia means “poor writing.” This programme addresses both reading and handwriting difficulties simultaneously.

  • Spelling programme: This programme is recommended when a learner’s reading ability is on par — including his reading comprehension — but has a spelling difficulty.

  • Maths programme: This programme is recommended when a learner’s reading ability is on par — including his reading comprehension — but he battles with maths.

  • School Readiness programme: This programme prepares the pre-school child for reading and learning. Learning difficulties can therefore be prevented.

  • Programme for High School Learners/Adults: This programme enhances the concentration and memory of the high school learner or adult student.

The supplementary manual also contains tips, frequently asked questions, et cetera.

Compublox (included free of charge):

Compublox is a computer program on CD containing four Audiblox exercises, which can be used to supplement the various Audiblox programmes. It is compatible with Windows XP/2000/ME/98.

The following teaching materials are also included:

Audiblox Set
  • Coloured blocks: Ninety-six coloured blocks, equally divided into six different colours — black, white, red, green, blue and yellow.

  • Screen: The screen is used to shield blocks from the learner.

  • A set of colour cards with pre-printed patterns: These are used for one of the Audiblox exercises.

  • A set of letter cards: The letter cards are used for the Spelling exercise in the Spelling programme.

  • Reading book and word cards: The reading book Rainbow Dreams contains a story made up of the 800 most commonly used words in English. Word cards of words appearing in chapters one to three, and word lists of words appearing in chapters four and five, are included in the package.
